MIDI: Milan are close to terminating Origi’s contract, and his annual salary is higher than both Modric and Rabiot

Football

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan is close to reaching a termination agreement with Origi.

In general, when a player is about to move, it is often said that his locker is about to be emptied. This sentence cannot be used to describe Origi, because he no longer has a locker in Milan. The Belgian player has long disappeared from the Rossoneri's sights, but he still retains the contract signed in 2022. This contract is very generous, with an annual salary of 4 million euros after tax. Due to tax exemptions, it is approximately 5.2 million euros before tax, and will last until the summer of 2026.

Origi has been enjoying this salary of 4 million euros without playing for Milan again. His last official appearance for Milan was in the league game against Juventus on May 28, 2023. He played 4 minutes. Subsequently, Origi was loaned to Nottingham Forest and never played for Milan again. He has disappeared like a ghost.

Now the two sides are finally approaching the moment of breaking up. As early as June, Origi was spotted at the Milan headquarters discussing the termination of the contract, but no agreement was reached between the club and the player. It was originally expected that a final agreement would not be reached until January 2026, but it has now accelerated and the two parties may end the relationship early.

It is revealed that there are only some legal details left to deal with, and Origi and Milan can break up early. The exact amount of savings Milan will make is difficult to estimate, as the club will have to weigh remaining wages against the severance package paid to Origi.

In any case, Origi’s experience in Milan is undoubtedly heading towards an absurd, even comical ending. At first, everyone had high hopes for the striker who was looking for a comeback. He had won the Champions League as a main force with Liverpool, but the result was a complete failure. He was loaned out to Nottingham Forest for a year and there was no improvement.

After returning to Milan, the club told Origi that he would be sent to the Milan Future Team (second team) to train with Balo Toure. However, Origi never appeared at the training ground of the second team. Then, he disappeared completely.

And it disappeared in the true sense. Origi did not appear on Milan's training ground again. The only news was that he was spotted conducting private training near Florence and Rome. He also disappeared from social media and basically did not update social media, and his number of fans was close to 3 million. Origi's most recent update was to pray and express condolences for his late teammate Diogo Jota, which dates back to July 2024, when he was photographed on the streets of Tokyo. Perhaps Origi will become active on social media again when he becomes a free agent.

Meanwhile, Milan moved on, trying not to think about the tens of millions of euros wasted on this disastrous deal. Origi's current salary even exceeds that of Modric (annual salary of 3.5 million euros after tax) and Rabiot (also 3.5 million euros after tax, but with high bonuses).
