Former teammate: Those moves you saw Messi do at Camp Nou, he did them as a kid

Recently, Riera, Messi’s former teammate at La Masia, was interviewed by the Balearic Islands football podcast “Balears en joc”. He revealed some details about Messi’s early life in Barcelona.

Riera spent his entire youth training career at Barcelona, from the youth team to the reserve team, and then moved to Espanyol to start his career. He successively played for clubs in Greece, Ukraine, Poland and Cyprus, and finally returned to his hometown of Manacor. He is now 38 years old.

Riera also recounted some of Messi's classroom problems at La Masia: "He is a very shy person, as everyone knows, but he is also very interesting. In school, he does not like to study and is often half asleep."

Riera pointed out that this situation occurs especially in the class of the "Catalan teacher". He believes that Messi may have been thinking: "Why not speak Spanish, after all we are in Spain". This idea is still held by some people today, but it is completely inconsistent with the goal of integrating into Catalan culture.

However, during the break, Messi's attitude was completely different. When they played football, Riera recalled: "We usually played 25 against 25, playing on a small concrete field." Despite the limited conditions, Messi's talent has been clearly revealed: "The moves you saw him do at the Nou Camp, he did it right there."

Therefore, Riera believes that those who have already known Messi's abilities will not be as surprised as the whole world by his subsequent performance in the first team and all the individual awards he subsequently won: "You can already see that he is a very special player."
