Bringing Derby to Saudi Arabia✊The former Milan coaches coached Riyadh Crescent and Jeddah United respectively
Last night, the Saudi Arabian football team Jeddah United officially announced that it had signed a contract with former Milan coach Conceição, who became the club’s new coach, replacing Blanco who had previously resigned.
In June this year, former Inter Milan coach Inzaghi also gave up his coaching position at Inter Milan and came to the Saudi League to coach Riyadh Crescent.
Conceicao's arrival at Jeddah United also brought a unique "Milan Derby" to the Saudi League - a duel between former Milan coach Conceicao and former Inter Milan coach Inzaghi Jr.
Inzaghi and Conceicao have a close relationship. The two played together at Lazio in 2000 and jointly defeated Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia final that year to win the championship.
After retiring and becoming a coach, the relationship between the two was not as good as before: In the 1/8 knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League in the 22-23 season, Inzaghi led Inter Milan to eliminate Porto coached by Conceição. After the second leg, Conceicao ignored Inzaghi who walked towards him and left the field without shaking hands.
The two sides have met 6 times in their coaching careers:
22/23 season, first leg of the Champions League knockout round of 1/8, Inter Milan 1-0 Porto
22/23 season, second leg of the Champions League 1/8 knockout round, Porto 0-0 Inter
24/25 season, Italian Super Cup final, Inter Milan 2-3 Milan,
24/25 season, Serie A Milan 1-1 Inter Milan
24/25 season Coppa Italia semi-final first leg Milan 1-1 Inter
24/25 season Coppa Italia semi-final second leg Inter Milan 0-3 Milan
In the early morning of October 25, Jeddah United will face Riyadh Crescent in the Saudi Arabian Football League, when the two coaches will have a direct confrontation again.
