Kane: I want to win more important trophies on a bigger stage. England has a good chance at the World Cup
In an exclusive interview with The Athletic, Bayern forward Kane talked about life in Germany, the original decision to transfer, the World Cup and other topics.
About picking up kids from school
- There are a lot of kids excited to see me, not just mine. They thought it was funny that everyone else was asking for pictures and I just tried to focus and pick them up as quickly as possible.
About the decision to move to Bayern
- From a professional perspective, it’s great to be able to experience and showcase my talents to more people. It made me a better and more influential player and the Premier League is probably the biggest league in the world so you don't realize how big other leagues and their fan bases are. But every stadium we went to was full and the atmosphere was great.
About learning German
- I was okay in class, but once I left class and heard them talking fluently and quickly, I couldn't keep up. But I'm still trying these things, trying to immerse myself in and understand different cultures - which is great from a personal perspective.
About daily life
- My eldest sons are always playing football. As they grow older, they will take up more of my time. We have almost no free time, and I will spend as much time with them as possible.
About your love of golf
- The snow falls fairly early and from October to April the courses are basically closed because the snow covers everything. Whereas in England you can play most of the year.
What do you miss about England?
- I do miss a good oat milk latte.
About winning the Bundesliga title last season
- Obviously, I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. From the time I started my career to that moment, there was a lot of hard work, a lot of ups and downs, a lot of close moments. As time went on and the closer I got to my goal, the more determined I was to cross the finish line and secure my first trophy.
It was a special feeling. We celebrated in a restaurant and got very drunk. To then lift the trophy at the Allianz Arena, celebrate in front of the fans and be on the winning side is really special. My family was there and the kids were on the field after the game. Those moments make it all worthwhile. You work hard all year round, are away from home a lot, and train a lot. In the 10 or 12 years I've been playing football, I haven't experienced a celebration like this... It's a really good feeling to have that.
The feeling of victory is addictive, you want it, you want to achieve it. When you achieve something like this, you might think, "Okay, I've done what I wanted to do, I can relax a little." But on the contrary, I wanted to do more. I want to win bigger trophies on a bigger stage and I'll wonder if I can improve and achieve my goals.
Regarding the Club World Cup and next year's World Cup
- The heat will be a big factor, I didn't realize it would be that hot, especially the midday and mid-afternoon games, which are very different from the night games that are often played in Europe. In addition, long-distance travel will also be a big challenge. Every game feels like an away game, but the support from British fans also gives the World Cup its unique charm.
This will be a great event because in America they always make everything big. They will not let this opportunity go to waste and will definitely make it one of the best events in the world. I'm looking forward to it and I think we have a good chance.
