Bonmati talks about meningitis: Fortunately, I am not in serious condition, I don t allow myself to miss the European Cup

Football

Spanish women's football star Bonmati successfully returned to the team to participate in the European Cup of the Swiss Women's Football Team after overcoming meningitis. The player was interviewed by AS and talked about her recovery.

What is this process? I thought I might not be able to go to Switzerland to participate in the European Cup with the team...

"It happened very suddenly and I couldn't digest it at all. When I felt better, the doctor told me that they no longer had to help me anymore, and I had only one thought in my mind, that is, I hope to catch up with the first game. Fortunately, my condition was not serious and my body was not affected much, and I was grateful for this. Participating in the European Cup is always the most important thing, and I can't allow myself to miss it."

Talking about meningitis

"I don't know much about this disease. At that time, they did a lot of tests, including CT, because I had a very severe headache. I also did I had blood tests, but nothing was found, and I finally diagnosed meningitis through lumbar puncture. Fortunately, I had a milder viral meningitis. "

Recovery was a miracle, only two nights...

"When I learned that I was going to be hospitalized, they told me that it might take five to ten days, but I actually only stayed for three or four days. I am not a doctor, but I feel that maintaining a healthy lifestyle as an athlete has helped me, and my body is ready to deal with these situations. Thank you very much, although I don't know when I will be discharged, the process ended up going very quickly."

How does it feel to be the first European Cup match?

"I know I may not be able to participate, but I discussed it with the medical team and decided to try it. This disease may recur, so we are very cautious. However, we also think that returning to the court is good for me. My last game was the Queen's Cup final, and the best preparation is through the game itself. And after being hospitalized, being able to stand on the court again gave me great confidence. Now I have fully recovered and my condition is as good as when I first arrived at the training camp."

Talking about winning the first game

"It is very important to win the first game, but there is still a long way to go. There are still six games left to the final, and we hope to achieve our goals step by step."

Putras suffered a cruciate ligament tear at this time three years ago. Did she empathize with you?

"It's different, I almost feel like I'm going to quit the game, and she's really quit. Although it's rude to say that, it's awful to go through this injury, and I hope that advances in medicine and knowledge can help us deal with these long-term injuries."

Talking about the current state

"I'm ready to play for 90 minutes, and I can't feel any discomfort. I don't like being restricted, but obviously the medical team needs to perform their duties, and we respect the process, although it's a bit frustrating for me... because I've been feeling good since Sunday and want to fight alongside the team. But obviously I need a process, and precautions have to be taken, which is not something I can control, but I really want to be involved in the game. For any player, the European Cup is a dream, a moment we pursue when we work hard. I've gone through enough difficulties and don't want to miss it."
