ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin wrote an article talking about James and the upcoming 2025-26 season.

During the offseason, the Lakers did not reach an early contract extension with James, which means that this will be the last year of James' current contract.

The Lakers are expected to have about $50 million in salary space, but if James seeks a new maximum salary contract, all of this money will be used for him. According to ESPN salary expert Bobby Marks, James will be eligible to sign up to a three-year deal for $188 million, with a starting salary of $58.1 million for 2026-27.
