Botafogo defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the Club World Cup, ending the embarrassing record of South American teams not defeating European teams in 13 years.

The last time South American team defeated European teams dated back to the Club World Cup held in Japan in 2012, when Corinthian defeated Chelsea 1-0 to win the championship. On December 16, 2012, in Yokohama, Japan, Peruvian player Paul Guerrero scored a winning goal for Corinthians. It was not only the last time that the South American team defeated the European team, but also the last time that the South American team won the Club World Cup championship.

Previously, the Boca Youth Team had the opportunity to break this record in the first match of this Club World Cup, but eventually drew 2-2 with Benfica. The Boca youth led by Russo originally planned to try again against Bayern on Friday, but Botafogo has achieved the feat ahead of schedule.

In this Club World Cup, there are two matches between South American teams and European teams: Palmeiras draws with Porto, Fluminense shakes hands with Dortmund to make peace, and the matches end with a 0-0 draw.
