The debt is high! Marca: Barcelona needs to settle €140 million in transfer debt this year, involving Lewandowski and others
Barcelona held a club shareholder meeting today and submitted the accounts for the previous fiscal year and the budget for next season. "Marca" interpreted Barcelona's financial report and said that Barcelona still faces continued high debts, the most important part of which is the unsettled transfer fees of several signings.
Barcelona's total transfer debt is as high as 159 million euros, of which 140 million euros must be repaid in the short term, that is, this season. In comparison, Barcelona faced a transfer fee debt of 45 million euros last season.
This amount is particularly astonishing in terms of transaction size and timing. In the summer of 2022, Barcelona signed Lewandowski, Rafinha and Konde for a total of 150 million euros.
However, although more than three years have passed, Barcelona has still not paid half of this amount. There are still 77 million euros unpaid: 42 million euros for Rafinha, 25 million euros for Conde and 10 million euros for Lewandowski.
Another example is Olmo. Although he joined Barcelona last year, the team still has to pay 18 million euros for him this year.
Another noteworthy case is Rock. Barcelona signed him from Atletico Parana for 30 million euros and sold him to Palmeiras for 25 million euros a year later, retaining partial ownership. Despite this, Barcelona still owes Atlético Paraná 17 million euros, which is a lot of money.
Barcelona will have to make a huge effort to settle all these accounts. Revenues at Camp Nou fell short of expectations as the first-team squad has yet to return to play at the stadium, meaning the team's revenue has dropped significantly. Short-term debt of 140 million euros is almost three times Barcelona's debt in the same period last year (45 million euros).
