Basketball

Today, in the opening season of the NBA G League, the Trail Blazers' team, the Tear City Mixers, defeated the Valley Suns 107-104. In this campaign, Yang Hansen played 29 minutes and 50 seconds, made 4 of 11 shots, scored 8 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.

After the game, Trail Blazers fans posted to discuss the game. The following is the post, Tuomi's comments and the editor's compilation.

Post:

Watched it. Come back victory.

I think Yang has already lost some weight. Biggest takeaway was his rebounding. Looks like he 's improved a lot in that area. games I watched. Really active hands, forces a lot of turnovers. Had 5 steals, but felt like more. He also scored 30 and was efficient. He 's more deserving of a two way than Cooke imo, same with Hinson. I just don 't see what Cooke 's NBA skillset is. Then again, he at least has some size, something you can 't really say about Love.

watched (today's Mixed Team game), a stunning comeback! I feel that Xiao Yang has lost weight. The biggest surprise is the rebounding! The good guy is getting better at grabbing the boards now. He stabbed someone on top of his head and stunned Maluachi (the good brother from the opposite side who only grabbed 4 boards).

Dillon Jones is really tough on defense! When I watch him play, this is the most stable hand. That hand was as fast as a ruthless iron hand, stealing the ball until it flew into the air. He had clearly recorded five steals, but it felt like he had ten! And I got it in 30 minutes, which is very efficient. I would say he deserves a two-way contract better than Cook, and so does Hinson. I really don’t see that Cook has any NBA unique skills...but he has a body at least, which is better than Love’s skinny monkey.

He needs to develop his go to move on offense..need to score more to be a truly impactful offensive player. Those passing lanes won 't be open in NBA if you cannot score on your own.

But, he clear plays better than Maluach this game, which is something I guess.

Takumi: Yang Hansen must quickly develop some offensive killers! If you can't score, you can't get along in the NBA. If you don't have a scoring threat, who will take care of your passing lane? I'll block it all for you!

But after all, Maluachi was outclassed this time, so it was considered a consolation prize.

Realistically that will be in the post for him. He did have a nice move down there early in the game but yeah, right now his scoring feels a bit lacking like it did in the summer league.

Takumi: Realistically speaking, he probably still has to make a living under the basket. There was indeed a beautiful inside move at the beginning, but...you know, the scoring is still a bit low now, just like the summer league..

[–]spittafan 7 points 4 hours ago

I wouldn 't put money on it — there are very few players who justify post touches in the nba. You have to be an outstanding offensive threat like Jokic or Sengun. Yang needs to be a shooting threat and a handoff hub at the nail, he 's not built to be a good post player. Not strong enough in the lower body and I doubt he will develop that

Takumi: I bet fifty cents that he can’t practice it! How many players in the NBA can be great in the low post now? You have to be an offensive killer on the level of Teacher Yue and Shen Jing. Xiao Yang has to practice his basket and be a high-position card dealer. He is not the material to play low-position at all! The bottom plate is a bit weak, I'm worried.

[–]Voidrunner503roy[S] 2 points 4 hours ago*

That 's probably true. I guess the post game would be more of a higher end outcome for him. He flashed a lot of it in the CBA but things are a lot different for him now for obvious reasons. I don 't think most scouts bought his shooting upside all that much but I actually do like his mechanics. Doesn 't get enough spin on the ball though.

Takumi: Honestly. For him, low-post singles are the ultimate gold-priced form. I showed off a few tricks in the CBA, but I understand everything. Now the environment is different. I think the scouts don't really believe that he can shoot, but I think his hand shape is quite pleasing to my eye, but the ball doesn't spin enough.

[–]blazer4ever 5 points 4 hours ago

I actually think he got more potential as a ball handler, they should run some reverse PnR for him.

Takumi: Why do I think he will be more effective with the ball? The coaching staff quickly gave him some reverse pick-and-roll tactics (the smaller guy picks and rolls for the bigger guy)!

[–]Voidrunner503roy[S] 2 points 4 hours ago and

If he could put the ball on the floor at all that would he huge

Takumi: If he had one hand to dribble, wouldn't he just take off?

[–]SheckNot910 4 points 4 hours ago

He needs something like Ayton had and he 'll be good.

Takumi: It will be enough if he can learn Ayton's skill package~

[–]alex_o_O_Hung 12 points 4 hours ago

He 's passing looked nice but the passing lanes won 't be open for him in the NBA unless he 's a scoring threat himself with the ball in his hands

Takumi: Yang Hansen's passing is quite coquettish, but you can't score points yourself. Who will eat your fake moves in the NBA? Believe it or not, all the passing lanes are blocked for you?

Love the way he was commanding with the ball in the center of the offense. Some great looking passes and good vision.

13 boards is decent. Shooting sounds like it wasn 't locked in, but it was nice watching him pull some moves in the post. Looking more agile every day.

Encouraging stuff. Let him get some more reps in, tell him to keep shooting, and let him continue to get comfortable with the ball in his hands.

Takumi: The way he holds the ball at the top of the arc is a bit like a playmaker! It makes me wet... I pass the ball with a few hands, and the field of vision is very wide!

13 boards, which is pretty good! I probably forgot to bring my scope when I was shooting today, but my little steps inside looked very smooth.. I feel like my body shape is getting lighter and lighter~

In short, the future is promising! Give him more time to level up, encourage him to throw as much as he wants, and let him play more comfortably!

Solid center stats finally even though it is a g league game.

Takumi: I finally saw decent center stats in Portland, even though it is a G League limited model.

[–]iJustSeen2Dudes1Bike 2 points 4 hours ago

Just don 't look at his shooting splits

Takumi: But his shooting data... take advice, don't look too closely...

[–]captain-gingerman 6 points 4 hours ago

I feel like the suns and blazers worked it out to get Hansen v Maluach in the G league. I wonder if Hansen will only play in the G league if there 's another big on the other team

Tomi: I wonder if the Suns and our Blazers deliberately arranged for Hansen Yang and Maluachi to meet in the G League? Wouldn't Yang Hansen be released to play only when there is a big man on the opposite side?

[–]jables1979 1 point 2 hours ago

I remember from previous years that many of the centers were 6 ' 6 " or 6 ' 7 ". Occasionally a 7 footer but seemed rare.

Takumi: I remember that in previous years, the centers in the G League were all little guys over 1.9 meters tall. Occasionally, a 2.1 meter tall one would pop up. Of course, he should be watched like a rare animal...

[–]peacefinder 4 points 4 hours ago

13 rebounds is interesting. Apparently in china the center 's role was to set a screen to allow others to rebound. Seems like he 's adjusting to the US center role.

Tuomi: There is something about 13 boards! It is said that in the CBA, the center only needs to block the position and let his teammates pick up the rebounds? It seems that he is adapting to the American center style of play like crazy!

Can we swap Caleb love for Dillon Jones?

Tomi: Can we throw away Love for Dillon Jones?

Khaman Maluach got cooked. ago

Maybe he 's a bit rusty, that shooting was pretty bad the first 2 quarters. Overall not too shabby. Edit: defense need to be better too. Overall it's okay.

Supplement: Defense also needs to be practiced more!

Caught some of it on the Roku sports channel this afternoon. He looks like he 's in good shape, running swiftly on breaks, being in good defensive positions at times. He had a couple of nice flushes and a put-back. Good passing and vision. He 's got a lot of potential.

Takumi: I watched it a few times on the Roku channel in the afternoon. Yang Hansen maintains a good shape, runs quickly on the fast break, and occasionally has a flash of inspiration in his defensive positioning. I got two beautiful buckles, and I still have a replacement buckle.. Pass the ball and see the big picture online! This young man has a future!

Nice highlights. Obviously a lot to work on and probably a coin toss of weather he hits but you can see the upside. Threw better passes in that clip than most centers do in a season and that little post move off the rebound was something DC doesn 't posses and was unguardable.

Like I said it 's the upside, I see him as a very good starter/star or bust type bust of guy just need to be patient and know that!

I feel a lot of complimentary pieces that the team currently needs can be obtained with our excess picks and your always going to miss guys like Coward in the draft. Don 't mind the pick at all.

Takumi: It's so delicious to watch the highlights! Of course, there are many flaws, and whether you can play it depends purely on fate, but the potential is obvious to the naked eye! Just the few passes in the video are enough for some centers to learn for a season! Klingen couldn't learn that smooth little combo inside after taking off the backboard. It was an unpreventable and unsolvable move! !

I told you earlier, what we look at is the potential! He can either become a star or not, so he has to be patient!

I feel that the missing puzzle pieces can be exchanged for our extra draft picks. It is normal to miss a few good prospects (such as Coward) in the draft. So there is absolutely no problem in choosing Yang Hansen!

[–]jables1979 2 points 2 hours ago

Do ya 'll remember what Duop did in his brief time with the Remix? It was like watching a man among boys, not even close. I want to see that from Hansen, and quick! That's like a full-level boss entering the novice village! I hope Yang Hansen can quickly develop that kind of dominance. Hurry up. I can’t wait!

Dude really need a haircut.

Takumi: Dude, seriously, please take the time to get a haircut.

[–]SeismicRipFart 24 points 4 hours ago

Nah man the psychological damage done to the opposing players by getting cooked by someone with a bowl cut will be invaluable

Takumi: No! This hairstyle is a killer! Imagine being hit by a pothead, and your opponent's mentality will explode!

[–]Feeling-Temperature7 20 points 5 hours ago

His assists looked amazing just like summer league.

Takumi: This assist is still as cool as ever! The taste of Xialian is back!

[–]Voidrunner503roy 16 points 5 hours ago*

I would like to see Yang get quite a bit of run in the g league this year but I understand the arguments against it. I just think it emulates the nba game well enough that it will be good for his learning curve, especially as it pertains to the defensive rules. Definitely much better comp than the CBA. It 's also very fast paced and the remix have led the league in pace for every year they 've existed so it will be good for his in-game conditioning.

Takumi: I really hope that Xiao Yang will practice more in the Development League this season, although I understand that some people are opposed to it.. But I think the rhythm of the Development League is quite similar to that of the NBA, which is particularly suitable for him to learn defensive rules. It is infinitely more intense than the CBA! Moreover, the mixing team is famous for playing whirlwind and practicing lung capacity levers!

[–]jingjing_h 15 points 5 hours ago

Looks like Yang is the kinda player that needs confidence to excel, and for him it comes from ball touches and great assists. That 3rd quarter was looking so nice when he got in the flow and helped close the gap for the upset

Takumi: Xiao Yang is a mentality player! As long as you hold the ball more and pass the ball well, your confidence will immediately explode! In the third quarter, he set the pace, filled in the holes successfully, and the counterattack was so exciting to watch!

Dillon Jones can COOK

Takumi: Dillon Jones has something!

[–]Maleficent_Bad402 1 point 2 hours ago

Is it possible for Dillon Jones to play a few games for us? Seems like he deserves a shot I just don 't know if it 's possible!

Takumi: Can Dillon Jones come to the NBA to play two games to experience it? I feel like he deserves it! I don’t know if the rules allow it...

Remix coach better

Takumi: The coaching level of the coach of the remix team is higher (than Split)! !
