Mavericks reporter Kevin Gray Jr. updated his Twitter update trailer: "One month later (from August 30), Mavericks forward PJ-Washington is eligible to sign a four-year, $89 million early contract renewal with the team."

In 2023, Washington (and the Hornets) renewed a three-year, $46.5 million contract, with one year left in the contract, and a salary of about $14.15 million in the 2025-26 season.

In the 2024-25 season, Washington played 57 regular season games for the Mavericks, averaging 32.2 minutes per game, scoring 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks.
