According to Dallas Hoops Journal reporter Ashish Mathur, sources revealed that Doncic is expected to sign an early contract renewal with the Lakers this weekend.
According to previous reports, due to being traded by the Mavericks, Doncic missed the super maximum salary contract this summer, but he can sign a four-year, $223 million contract with the Lakers, or choose a shorter three-year, $160 million contract (including player options), so that he can reach the conditions for playing in the NBA for 10 years in 2028, and thus sign a five-year, $418 million (the specific amount depends on the change in the salary cap).
Doncic's existing contract expires in 2027, of which about US$46 million is the 2025-26 season, and the 2026-27 season is a player option worth US$48.97 million.
Doncic played in the Lakers last season for 28 games, averaging 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game, shooting percentage of 43.8%, three-point shooting percentage of 37.9%, and free throw shooting percentage of 79.1%.
